Some parents may have read a report in the local press about the ‘best’ and ‘worst’ schools in Hounslow. Unfortunately, the article misuses government statistics to create dramatic headlines and stir up reaction on social media.

The article fails to mention that Springwell Junior School was rated good in its last Ofsted inspection, good in a local authority review last year and good in an external inspection carried out by the highly respected education organisation Challenge Partners in March.

All those reviews found that teaching and learning in the school is of a good standard, that school is well led and managed and that our children behave brilliantly, are well cared for and are positive about their experiences here.

Regrettably, this frankly lazy journalism also fails to explain that Ofsted accepts that progress data - the statistics referred to in the article -  is significantly lower in junior schools nationally than in  ‘all through’ primary schools, yet attainment is higher.  They have even directly told their inspectors to take this into account during an inspection.

This is why - and I am sure the astute readers among you would have noticed - most of the schools at the lower end of the article’s fake ranking system are junior schools.
