Excellent SATs results!
9 July 2019
Springwell has achieved its best SATs results since the new tests were introduced four years ago. Provisional results show a record number of children reaching the expected standards in reading, writing, maths and GPS (grammar, punctuation and spelling).
The percentage of children reaching the expected standard in reading, writing and maths has risen to 70% this year, well above the national average of 65%.
Mr Hughes is delighted with the news, which he says "demonstrates what talented and hard-working children we have - well done all of you! - but also what fantastic teachers we have at the school - not just the Year 6 teachers, who have gone above and beyond this year, but all the teachers and support staff who have contributed to Year 6's education over the last four years."
In maths, 88% of children attained a scaled score of 100+, an increase of 15 percentage points on 2018 and 9 points above the national figure, with 39% reaching the higher level of 110+, compared with 19% last year.
In reading, 82% of children reached expectations, up from 68% and well above the national average of 73%. 29% made the higher level, up from last year.
In Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling 91% of children scored 100+, 13 percentage points above the national average, with more than half of the year group, 53%, at the higher level, an increase of 19 percentage points.
In writing, which is not tested but teacher assessed, 77% of children were judged to be working at the expected standard, in line with national averages, and 20% at greater depth.
The school's governors praised the dedication and hard work of all the staff who have taught and supported the children over the last four years. The Chair of Governors, Nirmal Dhanjal, also paid tribute to the school's focus on research-based teaching and its continuing commitment to ensuring children get a broad and balanced education across the curriculum.
The Department for Education will publish further information and progress figures in the autumn term. Year 6 children will receive their individual results towards the end of term, along with their reports.
