The amalgamation of the Infant and Junior Schools took a significant step forward on 19th June after Hounslow Council’s Cabinet Members backed the proposal, having considered the views expressed by parents, staff and governors of both schools during the stakeholder consultation.

Statutory Notices will be published in a local newspaper and displayed in conspicuous places in both schools from 14th September to 12th October, proposing the closure of the existing schools on 31st August 2019 and the opening of a new community primary school commencing 1st September 2019.

All responses and documents will then be sent to the independent Schools Adjudicator who will make the final decision, probably in November or December. The full proposal will be published on the Council’s website and a copy of the proposal sent to the Governing Body of each school.

You can read the consultation report and other details on Hounslow’s council meeting webpage here.

Once final approval has been given, a temporary governing body made up of governors from both schools will be established to oversee the appointment of a headteacher and then guide the two schools through the complex challenge of merging.  The local authority is currently in contact with the two chairs of governors on the composition of the temporary body.

In the meantime the two schools have been in regular contact about the forthcoming change. The Infant School hosted a meeting last term with both heads and chairs of governors and both chairs and heads have visited classes in each other’s schools as a first step towards closer collaboration. Our Year 3 teachers will also be visiting Year 2 classes before the end of term as part of transition arrangements as we welcome our next intake of new children in September.

The current leadership structure in both schools will remain in place for the whole of the next academic year. The leadership and staff here at the Junior School are looking forward to strengthening ties further as the amalgamation nears, whilst ensuring that our priority will continue to be giving the best education possible to our current pupils.
