Provisional Year 6 SATs results for 2019 show a significant improvement in attainment in most areas.

The percentage of children reaching the expected standard in reading, writing and maths has risen from 59% last year to 70% this year, well above the national average of 65%.

In maths, 88% of children attained a scaled score of 100+, an increase of 15 percentage points on 2018 and 9 points above the national figure, with 39% reaching the higher level of 110+, compared with 19% last year.

In reading, 82% of children reached expectations, up from 68% and well above the national average of 73%. 29% made the higher level, up from last year.

In Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling 91% of children scored 100+, 13 percentage points above the national average, with more than half of the year group, 53%, at the higher level, an increase of 19 percentage points.

In writing, which is not tested but teacher assessed, 77% of children were judged to be working at the expected standard, in line with national averages, and 20% at greater depth.

The Department for Education will publish further information and progress figures in the autumn term.
